Question:

How do you get out the yellow stains that Oxyclean leaves behind on white clothes?

I have a $50 all white Abercrombie polo that I sprayed Oxyclean To Go on after I dripped a little wine on it, and, well, the wine came out but now I'm left with 3 huge yellow stains instead of 3 tiny red dots on my shirt. I have read on other websites that this seems to be a common complaint with Oxyclean. I was wondering if anyone knows how to get those out? I have tried fabric safe bleach and even straight Clorox Bleach, and so far no luck... HELP!

  1. some white fabrics simply cannot take bleach or oxyclean- and as a result it yellows.  Unfortunately, nothing removes that yellow.  It is chemical reaction to what is in the fabric and the chlorine either in bleach or oxy clean- this is the primary reason I do not allow my husband to sort the laundry.--sorry

  2. This is the precise reason I do not use the Oxyclean.  I use the Home Depot product Zep 505 cleaner to pretreat all of my clothes.  The only problem is once you wash the stain in there is not much you can do.  The laundry soaps now a days are made to repel stains which means if you wash it with the soap and the stain doesn't come out it is most likely locked into the article.

I suggest a yellow dye.  If you like the shirt and do not wish to part with it.

  3. You could have removed the wine safely with peroxide. You might try it on the yellow stains. Another thing that sometimes removes yellowing stains is borax. If the peroxide doesn't work then rinse it out and soak the shirt in borax overnight.

  4. I have sworn off that stuff completely because it does have a tendency to leave spots, same thing fabric softener does if it gets on dry clothing. The only thing I could suggest is rubbing peroxide and Borax (the bar type of laundry soap) onto the spot - I use it to get the yellow pit stains out of my hubby's work shirts with success. But I can't guarantee that will work, because those stains are particularly hard to remove once set in. Good luck though :)
