  1. One doesn't "get over" heat stroke!

Heat stroke is a life-threatening situation where the body's cooling system has maxed out and given up.  Skin temperature goes way up, perspiration generally stops altogether, and the victim will die soon.

Heat stroke requires active first aid: get out of the sun, sips of tepid water if the victim is conscious, get the body temperature down with cool cloths (but not so fast as to put the victim in shock), and above all else call 911.

  2. Heat Stroke is a serious, life-threatening condition caused by over-exposure to a hot environment and dehydration.  It is a step beyond heat-exhaustion which is much more common but which can be life-threatening too if not treated.

A victim of heat stroke shows a diminished level of consciousness, possibly unconscious, and breathing can be affected.  They typically show dry, hot and often red skin.  Immediate first-aid treatment is to bring the person out of the hot environment into the shade or a cool area, and provide cooling by sponging with cool tap water.  '911' needs to be called and this person needs hospitalization and further medical treatment in the medical facility.

A victim of heat exhaustion will usually be damp & sweating profusely, feel tired and lethargic, and may have nausea.  Basic First Aid is to get the person out of the heat into shade or a cool environment.  Allow them to re-hydrate drinking plenty of water.  Not soda or gatorade, cool water is best.  If they cannot rehydrate, ie, they vomit water back up, they also need to have hospital/emergency-room treatment.
