I'm way too old to depend on other people and public transportation around here really sucks. But I'm scared of getting into accidents, drunk and reckless drivers because there's too many irresponsible drivers out there!

  1. The only way to get over that fear is to practice and to realize the truth. Although you hear about all these accidents, drunk and reckless drivers, how many have you ever encountered? Its just the media highlighting all the exciting things. How often do you hear of a story of someone driving safely? Exactly. It would be boring. You have nothing to be afraid of, just be careful.

  2. My fear of driving went after I had a couple of lessons, I had more fear of the lesson surrounding, and the fact it was a lesson than actually driving on my own for instance.

You should find a suitable instructor, either local or a franchise such as BSM, you'd be amazed what the instructors are capable of.

    They really can work mirracles.

(let us know how you go)

    Good Luck

  3. Sign up to take professional Drivers Lessons through area community college or private business. Trust me, we don't need a person who is afraid of driving on the roads or highways anymore than we need drivers who drink or are irresponsible. In the end, they are the same.

  4. How old are you? Grow up. The only way to get over something is confront it head on. Get your butt out there and drive, NOW!!!!!

  5. Relax. Pay attention. Do both at the the same time. It's that simple. If you are still scared and able to, move to a city that provides good public transportation. If your town is big enough, lobby for better bus service.

  6. don't live in fear. anything can happen you can eat a tainted tomato and get salmonella, don't lower your standard of living due to a fear, just get out there and drive, if it makes you feel better drive slower and be extra alert and responsive to your surroundings, I am very watchful and I've never been in a wreck. you'll be fine get out there and just do it don't fear.

  7. This fear is pretty common among women or people who have had a traumatic car accident.

Women usually don't like to drive during certain times and try to avoid it, or they may avoid all driving.

This is happening due to them seeing or being in a traumatic accident where it never leaves their mind.

Same among other men and women drivers who have thought that they too will get in an accident.

I think you should have trust in your driving and avoid all those thoughts.

Think about the positive parts of driving and understand your car.

Understand that you are safe unless you put yourself in danger or don't avoid it if it comes near.

Try going on regular and easy roads and think to your self as you know the road perfectly.

Try to gain more experience if you are afraid that you don't know a lot or want to know more by practicing in certain driving classes to help.

Try to be confident and believe that you can take the easy roads and move into main streets, then different cities, and faster roads to take off the thoughts.

Try to get a little more into driving and enjoy it.

Trust your self and I believe that you will get over it. It isn't a stupid thought and some of my friends have that feeling and I too try to get them over it.

Think it through and you too can get over this fear.
