i accidentally got acrylic paint on my friends car. i was wondering is it possible to get it off with out having to get the car spot painted, and not removing any of the real paint off her car. it is only on a few areas of the car like the top and doors and it is small amounts about the size of a quarter. i would really appreciate your response.

thank you.

  1. Paint Thinner/Reducer will get it off, it will also take off the finish so you will have to rewax the car, don't rub too hard or it will scratch the paint too.

If you just take it into a good body shop or detail shop they will probably do it for you and charge you next to nothing, we just took off some marks for a lady and didn't charge anything because she was getting an oil change at the same time, it really only takes a minute or two to do it.

Don't use thinner on vinyl though unless it is for just a second, it will melt it away.  No matter what anyone tells you, thinner won't take off your original paint unless you sit there and rub the h**l out of it.  I use thinner all the time to remove marks left from people running into mailboxes/fence posts.

  2. Did you try paint thinner?

  3. Most car cleaners contain petroleum distillates that will remove acrylic paint, petrol, turpentine and white spirit will all work quite well as will tar spot remover. Once removed wax the area and polish. Provided the original car paint is in good condition the marks should not be noticeable.

  4. Personally, I wouldn't use paint thinner as this would in most cases remove some of the original paint as well (probably the important clear topcoat). I have used WD40 for this myself with great results. Just stream a bit on and rub away the over spray. Very easy and costs a few bucks. Make sure that you wash the area afterwards and apply some normal polish just as you would after removing grease marks. Hope this helps :)

  5. Try a product called goof off

  6. depends if its latex or oil based. if its latex, try hot water and some elbow grease. if not you can bye "goof off". if its oil base, laqer thinner might do the trick, or their are hand cleaners to remove oil paint. you can get these at any paint store

  7. wash the area with dish soap, then go to the store and get a claybar kit.  The clay bar kit should come with quick detailer and the clay bar.  Wet the surface with the quick detailer and rub the clay bar over the spot.  Wax the area when finished.  This will also take off bugs good from the front of the car.

  8. Acetone will work great, or any nail-polish remover that contains acetone (read the label to find out which ones contain acetone).

I sort of inherited a truck from my older sister. she had painted rubber ducks and all kinds of other girlly stuff all over it. Needless to say those things had to go. After trying a few things, I found that nail polish remover worked great. When I ran out of nail polish remover I checked the label and found out it contained acetone. I got some acetone and finished the job. It didn't affect the actual car paint at all, but took the acrylic paint right off. Just pour the acetone onto a rag and wipe the paint off.
