While painting my mother's house, the contractor got paint all over her hardwood floors. Some of it is the residue from the paint that he sprayed on and some is drips of paint. We need to get all of the paint up. Any suggestions?

  1. Scrape the excess paint off the floor with an ice scraper from your car.  This will not damage the floor.  Clean up the residue with alcohol.  Then soap and water.  Should make everything look like new.

  2. their are quit a few products on the market to help you to remove paint over-spray and splatters, few that i have used are simple green,oops,goof-off,and Murphy's oil soap and elbow grease

  3. murphy's oil soap.

    it is intended for hardwood.

also, file a complaint to the company.

  4. Get it sanded and re coated. real simple I have just done this as a contractor sprayed the skirtings etc

  5. Lysol regular disinfectant spray. Trust me it works even though it sounds wierd. Leaves the wood shinny also

  6. It depends on how your floor is finished. If it has a sealer on it that will make it mush easier. For chunks or spatters you can use a plastic putty knife or a nylon  pan scraper or anything like these that have a scraping edge to pop off the paint. Mineral spirits can be used on a rag for the fine detail. Then clean with soap and water. Mineral spirits is basically the same as your goof off and other commercial products and cheaper. If they are the older style that has more of min-wax finish you can do the same but you will have to re wax your floors. If mineral spirits does not do the trick try acetone.

  7. the thing taht nobody prior to me is remembering is that anything that cleans up the paint may also take off the finish thats on the floor (the clear varnish) if the fllor has a good varnish on it the paint should come up on its own first try using your finger nail unless its a lot of paint try anything tahts not a solvent if its waterbase paint it should come right up if its oil base use water to dilute it untill it become liquadey and just keep wiping til it cleaned up just keep in mind your trying to clean up the paint without getting into the finish on the floor

  8. Try Murray's oil soap for wood.  ;o)
