Question:

How do you get perscribed Xanax

Who would I have to go to about it? A psychiatrist, A Doctor, or could I just go to the local walk in clinic?

I've talked to my mom about getting it, but she really doesn't understand why I need it, she sort of just blows it off as nothing big.

I believe I have anxiety, because being around others, whether its 2 or 50 people, I feel sick as can be, I get all nervous and shaky, even when its my best friend!

Having people look at me is unbearable.

There's plenty more reasons why I believe I’m in need of it, but basically all I need from you is to know who I need to talk to about it, and hopefully someone who’d understand and can explain it to my mom.

Thanks.

  1. u have to see a psychiatrist and u don't have to take xanax.  people use benzo drugs for anxiety.  those r like xanax and valium and those are addictive.  u can also take anti depressants that are not addictive at all and help with anxiety too like lexapro, paxil or zoloft.  if u want to talk about this more u can IM me online on aim.  my screename is TheBTPYoda.

  2. Just talk to your family doctor and explain how you are feeling and tht you want to try Xanax to improve your quaility of life.

And you dont need a phyc to get the script because i am proof of that.

  3. Doctors don't just prescribe Xanax. They usually start out with something less potent, and if you ask for it 9 times out of 10 you won't get it. They'll probably start you off on something like Zoloft or Prozac and adjust those as needed. There's a ton of different meds for anxiety, and most have little to none side effects like addiction. Your best bet is to start with your doctor then ask to see a psychiatrist and a psychologist both of whom can better help you than a GP. Psychiatrist will help with the medication and the psychologist will give you pointers on how to handle your anxiety.  As far as explaining it to your mother, you best bet is to schedule an appointment with a psychologist and have them explain what's going on. I had to do that with my parents.

  4. You must talk to a medical doctor about your concerns either a physician or a psychiatrist. They will want to know more about how you feel before they will feel comfortable writing a script.

Your mom may be right but she could be wrong too. Tell her that while you value her opinion that you still want to seek a professional opinion. Good luck to you.

  5. i think what you have is called a social phobia and it can be devistating--talk to your family doc---sooner the better
