I have a 50 gallon or smaller cement fish pond that has developed algae like in 2 days. Anyone know how to rid it of it and keep it out.

  1. some algae is normal for pond functions, to control the algae check out some

snails, algae eaters, and "bog" or floating plants....

also, shade will minimize algae growth

  2. I remember my grandpa going through something like this.  Algae is a good thing.  It's part of the cycle the pond goes through, although, too much nutrient/fertilizer had washed into the pond and the algae got a bit out of control.  I remember him throwing some bluish grainy powder stuff into the pond.  You should ask the people at the fish stores, or maybe even the pool stores.

  3. Usually algae in ponds is considered a good thing. It adds character to the pond, and provides food for the fish that might be neglected during feedings. If it really is a concern of yours get some Bushy nose plecos. They don't get too large and will eat the algae throughout their entire life.
