How do you get rid of a stye?

I have a little stye on my eyelid, it's ugly and annoying, how do I get rid of it and, how do I prevent them in the future?

A stye is actually caused by a bacteria, an infection, and you may need antibiotics to treat it, but sometimes it will go away on its own.  Soften the stye by applying a hot, moist compress several times a day for at lease 10 minutes at a time.    

Whenever you are treating a stye, be very careful and resist the urge to pop or squeeze it! Do not rub your eyes because you can easily spread the infection to your other eye - that is unless you want a matching sett.  If your stye does not go away within a week see your doctor about getting antibiotics.

don't share eye liner or any eye make up or anything like that..

and it will go away in a week or so by itself

Wash it with boric acid or a mild salt water solution.

I believe you can buy a prepared remedy at the drug store but I've never tried it.

Here's how I've treated mine as learned from my Mother.

Boil a cup of water & pour into small glass jar and add a tablespoon of boric acid (can be bought at local pharmacy fairly cheap).  Let cool until warm and dip a cotton ball in and place on your eye while lying down and resting. Keep solution covered and use within 24 hrs. Make new solution as needed.



I haven't had a stye in years but I think it's because I've gotten better about throwing out old eye makeup. They really can hurt.

When at home, heat up a tea bag and place it on your eye (closed of course).  This will help with clearing up the stye quicker.  Make sure to wash your makeup off completely at night also.  I find if I wear eye makeup to bed, then I end up getting styes.
