Question:

How do you get rid of a wasp's nest?

We moved into a new house and were shocked to discover that there is a wasp nest inside our 2nd story window (one the outside). It is in the crevice between the storm window and the inside window. There is no screen on the inside window, which is apparently how they got in. Unless we open the window, the wasps can't get in, but we would like to get rid of the nest. Opening the window and blasting the nest with insecticide is not an option. Help...

  1. At night when they are docile. You can practically scrap the nest into a container , and relocate

  2. Is it possible to get a wedge of some sort to open the area between

the two windows to allow for a hose to get inside? I have killed wasp

nests before with a full blast of water that keeps pummeling the nest.

I find it to be the safest and most effective means for killing them and

destroying the nest. They don't like water or fire. If the wasps are still

inside they can't chase you so see what you can find to flood the

space or spray directly on them.

  3. Well since you don't want to use wasp killer or open the window and risk retaliation, I would suggest using a high pressure water stream from the ground to disperse them. Then go upstairs and knock the nest down, maybe two people would be a good idea, one upstairs and one with the hose. Better idea is to use wasp killer, you can shoot them out of the air with that.

  4. can you just open it a little & stick a pole in there & knock it down with long sleeves on, then slam shut.  They supposedly will abandon a nest that's been moved or badly disturbed.  So just let it lay for a few days/weeks until they're gone, then throw it away.

  5. If you don't want to use an insecticide, just wait until winter and the cold will kill them. Otherwise you could wait until night, when they are not very active, - the colder the better - and put a pound or two of dry ice between the windows, close the window and let the dry ice sublime. Hopefully the carbon dioxide level between the windows would reach a fatal level for the wasps.
