I recently moved schools and I was unpacking my stuff into the new classroom to find 3 HUGE cockroaches. I know since I teach in a classroom that I am limited what I can use but I am FREAKED out. The ones I found 1 was dead but 2 were ALIVE! I can't use pesticides in my classroom due to student allergies. Anyone have cockroaches in their classroom and used something that was APPROVED that I can use. Thanks for the help!

  1. Not to add to your worries but you should be worried and FREAKED out since not only are cockroaches gross but can trigger allergies and asthma in your students (DO NOT PAY THEM $1 to catch them as they carry disease and your students will get sick).

    Find the teacher who is your union rep and ask them for help in addressing this situation because it poses a HEALTH risk to your students. Keep pushing for a solution since most people working there will have accepted this as normal conditions.

  2. That's the Schools responsibility... But if THEY won't do anything about it- then DEMAND that they give You $50. to take "care" of the Problem... THEN- put a "Bounty" on those Bugs! Choose a Student who ISN'T grossed out by them- to Catch them, & give Him a $1. for every one He gets. Within a month or three- your Problem should be Solved....

  3. The school should definitely address this for you; however, in the meantime, boric acid (Borax) around the edges of te room ought to help some, safely.

  4. These steps should work::

    >Get the whole class-room cleared of non-essential stuff

       esp lockers, cabinets and hidden corners.

    >Impose a rule that no food-stuffs are to be consumed in the classroom nor kept in the lockers, cabinets.

  5. Not to gross you out further--but if one room has them...more do! Definitely the school's responsibility. Maybe they can spray during a vacation or put out/monitor bait--there has to be something!!!

    A no food rule has to be strictly enforced. Also,  I would also be careful NOT to put bring any brief case or purse into the classroom that might carry something unexpected home!

    Good luck to you!
