I have tried everything from not keeping any fruit in the house or putting it in the fridge, to throwing away anything that is open(such as chips,crackers,etc..) I even used fly strips and it caught a few gnats but they will not leave! I have cleaned out all my cabinets and floors etc...still nothing...we have no pets either insider or outside and no trash or anything inside. Anybody have any remedies to help me out. Thanks so much

  1. I live in an area of SoCal that is being invaded by gnats and there was just an article in our newspaper about combating them.  They said they don't like moving air so set up fans (this one seems to be working for us).  They also said to mist around windows and doors with a solution of dish soap and water and use it to mist them out of the air (misting them out of the air does work).  They also suggest using shallow containers of cider vinegar placed around attracts and drowns them (it works but it is gross to dump them out).

  2. I found this tip at the Scott Common Sense Community:

To get rid of flies and gnats, get a jar, put an old banana peel or some other "goodies" in it, then roll up a piece of paper into a funnel and stick it into the jar. Insects go in, but seem to have difficulty getting out.

  3. ok, here's what you need. 1. A peach/a juicy type of fruit. 2. An empty 2 liter coke bottle. 3. scissors. 4. some glue or something of that matter.

Instructions: First, cut open the top eighth or so of the bottle. Second, stick the fruit in. Third, make sure the lid or whatever is open. Fourth, turn the eighth piece of the bottle upside down and put it back into the bottle. Use your glue or whatever you have to make the eighth piece stay as is in the bottle. Having the original bottom piece up, hang the bottle wherever the gnats seem most abundant.

Strategy: Most flying insects have ease directing where they fly upward, but have trouble flying down. The small entry point will make them unable to get out, while more are still attracted to the fruit.

Result: Most gnats will be stuck, and you now have a lessened gnat population to worry about seeing as you can simply cover the hole, and throw the bottle away.
