If you're talking about the really, really small ants - like a yellowish to reddish brown color - then they're probably pharaoh ants.  

According to the website, these are not so fun to deal with because they usually have several smaller colonies that form a super colony... and unlike most ants, there are many queens laying eggs.  You may be tempted to use a repellent bait to deter them from your home, but this is not the way to go.  It will only cause the colonies to fracture and the ants will become more prolific.  

Instead use a bait insecticide that they will take back to their nest and poison their food supply.  This type of ant likes sweet bait (something with borax or boric acid).  The key with these ants is to be thorough though as they are very resilient.  

As for what type of bait to buy, Terro seems to be what's recommended.
