How do you get rid of niats?

we had a bag of potatoes go bad, now we are trying to get rid of all the little flies.

First throw out the bad food. If you still have some gnats left what you can do is leave out a small ramekin or shot glass with some white vinegar or water and dish soap. The gnats are attracted to it, and they will fly into it and commit suicide. I had to set many of these up around my mom's house because they were coming off her plants.

That's gnats.

They'll disappear after a few days if you really clean out the potato storage area and then go thru the rest of the pantry, shelves and counter removing an open food and washing everything down.  The gnats or fruit flies have a short adult life.  You don't want to have a food source for new babies, hence the cleaning.
