All my Harlequin Macaw Jake does all day long is "wah" and flap a wing.... He is only ten months old and wonder if he he hadn't been weaned properly. Its beginning to drive me crazy! If I touch his beak he will bob his head up and down vigorously as if to feed. I've done alot of research and love the bird, but my sanity is in question. Some one please help me.

  1. these birds mate for life, he probably wants companionship. I was told in Honduras, at the parrot sanctuary that to get only one of these birds, not two is irresponsible.

  2. A 10 month old macaw is still a baby, and it sounds like he wasn't weaned properly. All you can do is feed him when he "asks" you to. Eventually, he'll stop begging and start finding his way to his own food dishes.

Large macaws can take nearly THAT long to wean.

  3. he thinks you're his mate and that feeding thing he's doing is  courtship behavior. He looooooooves you...;).
