How do you get rid of the black bars on your tv when your playing blu ray?

i have a ps3 and when i play video games on my 50 inch panasonic, the image is full screen. but when i play blu ray movies on my ps3 its got those black bars. how do i get rid of them? its so annoying because we bought the tv for the full picture and now its chopping off like 3-4 inches from the top and bottom. please help!!

  1. r u using component or hdmi cables? if so the blu ray movies should take up the whole screen. also, u could set ur tv to zoom or stretch to make the movie take up the whole screen.


  2. films are filmed in many different aspects. Hardly ever 16:9 which widescreen tv's are. There is no way around this unless you want to distort the picture and set it to 'zoom' or 'stretch' settings. otherwise youll have to deal with it. I can't imagine its that much of a hassle with that big of a screen. On my 32 inch wide screen those bars don't even bug me really.*edit* And its not 'chopping' anything off, you're getting the full aspect of the film. It's just not filling up the entire screen because the tv is a different aspect than the movie.
