How do you get rid of the rubber smell of the stable water buckets?

  1. what does it matter?

    the smell should just go away with time.. but if your horse isn't drinking because of the smell you can scrub the bucket with Listerine or any other minty mouthwash to cover it up/make it go away.

    You could also try adding apple cider vinegar to the water to make it smell/taste better.. but then again your horse might not like ACV so he still wouldn't drink.

  2. Buy heavy plastic buckets for water instead, like Fortiflex.  They do not smell and last forever.

    I have those black rubber buckets for grain buckets, and the horses don't mind them at all.  It takes a long time for that rubbery smell to go away, and it probably never goes away completely.   I could see the smell potentially being a problem with drinking water, since some horses are very picky about their water.
