Question:

How do you get rid of the sticky adhesive left from removing window tinting?

My husband got a ticket for having his windows tinted too dark. I have his car today, so I thought I'd take care of it. I peeled off the tinting, but there's a LOT of adhesive left. (The adhesive smells awful - it's given me a headache.) I used nail polish remover and a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser and it worked OK, but it'll take me forever and I'm afraid about getting the remover on the door panels.

I saw that someone else asked a similar question about a year ago and said that Goo Gone didn't work.

Help me!

  1. paint thinner rags, razor scraper, and lots of elbow grease. wet the rag with thinner, hold on glass to moisten adhesive, use scraper to remove largest part then rub clean. I wouldn't use magic eraser on glass it may leave scratches as it is abrasive. follow with some ammonia based glass cleaner till you get rid of rest of milky look left behind. best of luck you are in for alot of hard work and keep off the door panels etc.

  2. I normally just use a rag soaked in metho, seems to do the job pretty good.

  3. razor blade.. in one of those straight razor holders for wall papering.. best way.. or go and look for tint removal stuff.. it is made for specifically that.. try alcohal too or acetone.

  4. the best easiest way is to take a NEW razor blade and soapy water (DONT FORGET THE SOAPY WATER)  the solution acts as a lubricant,  make sure to get all the edges of the window track. and try to go one way we always go from top to bottom, for stubborn areas , rear windows with defroster grids and just to make sure its all gone  use steel wool and AGAIN soapy water. brillo pads work but the soap they use in them is a mess.  GOOD LUCK !

and for the ppl recommending tint removal spray etc.  its nothing more than ammonia/water . if you have ammonia at home youcan use it if not... your choice as to buy it or not . the complete method above is the safest, gagfree way to do it .

  5. go to auto zone or any tire shop or inspection place, they use this really good stuff to take that sticky stuff off your window where your old inspection sticker used to be i bought some of that spray and took the old tint right off of my mustang, works great

  6. try vegetable oil.

then windex to remove the vegetable oil

I used this to remove stickers from our new windows and it worked like a charm!
