How do you get royalties from songs you wrote yourself?

My friend and I wrote some songs and we wanted to sell them to artists and get royalties and we were wondering how you could do that.

be careful, sometimes when you sell a song, you also sell the rights....artists will have lawyers, make sure you copyright your songs if you plan on getting the royalty checks...sometimes you sell you song and the rights to the artist knowingly for more money than just selling the song....
