  1. you can use brillo or sos pads but you have to scrub SOFTLY. adjust your elbow grease to the stain and by inspecting the knife often while cleaning it. these pads are not generally as rough as real steel wool and I use them on my stainless steel sinks as well as countertops when I've got a set in stain. again, its all in the amount of pressure.

  2. Yes!  Good knives do not belong in the dishwasher!

But you can remove the rust stains with a good stainless steel cleaner available at your local supermarket.  If you don't see anything specifically for stainless steel, even Soft Scrub will work.  You don't want anything overly abrasive, and make sure you use the smooth side of a sponge or soft cloth when cleaning the metal.

  3. A cut lemon is the best way of removing rust from fabrics and so should work on cutlery, try dipping a cut lemon into table salt (it is finer than cooking) and rubbing the stain.

The stain is caused by mixing metals (allowing them to touch) in the dishwasher. It helps also to take out the cutlery as soon as the machine finishes the cycle.

  4. I am not sure about the quality of those utensils, none the less... you might try placing them in coca cola for 5 days, that should do it
