  1. Steam it with a wet rag and a clothes iron. This will swell the wood fibers and then can be sanded smooth. Stain and finish to match...

Short of buffing, sanding or refinishing, you can hide them using Howards Restore a Finish.  You find it on the paint/stain aisle at the home improvement stores.  It comes in clear or tints to match your wood tones.  It does not damage the floor, but it will obscure scratches, remove water ring stains, cloudiness and leaves a nice shine.  When I do my wood floors, I use a sponge mop covered in a lint free rag to apply it.  Let it soak into the wood and then remove the excess with another dry lint free cloth.

  3. Depends on the finish but you could use a steam iron on a cloth or just an iron on a damp cloth. The moisture should swell the timber back but may not remove them completely.

  4. If they are shallow, buffing them may be an option. If they are deep, you would have to sand and refinish the floor.
