Question:

How do you get sims 2 to work on vista?

I have tried absolutely everything and i don't know what else to do, my vista laptop has all the minimum requirements needed to run the game and I have installed patches off the sims website, run the program as administrator and also as XP compatible. But still after all of this it still crashes when i want to make a family. I have heard that if you install an expansion pack it can work, has anyone else had the same problem and found that it worked once doing this?

Please help

  1. Vista+laptop+sims 2=trouble

    Why?

    Because Vista hogs a massive amount of your system resources, and I have never heard of a laptop that had the specifications powerful enough to run both the Sims 2 AND Vista. You might meet the minimum requirements but do they allow you to play the game? No, having the minimum requirements only allows you to install the game.

    Installing an expansion pack will only add to your woes as this will increase the burden on your CPU and graphics card.

  2. I haven't had any problems and I've got vista and I always play it and I have never tried any of the things that you have tried but I have installed expansion packs.But you are in luck because I have tried playing the game with just the base one and it worked for me.I got my game working by downloading this patch from the sims 2 website and I think you have done that already.

    P.S  don't run anything while the sims 2 is running or esle it might crash

  3. Do you know what kind of graphics card you have? The sims 2 needs a very good graphics card! It's most likely not your RAM or memory card because if the game is already installing, you must have enough memory. I have a Vista PC and have no problems what so ever installing and/or playing the sims 2. If you still have issues, consider talking to a Geek Squad member (you can find them at best buy) to see what the problem could be.

    I'm sorry to say, but it could just be that the sims 2 is not compatible with your lap top. I hope you can fix your problem soon because I know how hard it can be to be without the sims 2 for a long period of time!

    Good luck

  4. I had sims 2 deluxe on vista and it kept crashing.  In the end i just took it back and accepted the fact that it wasn't going to work no matter how many people said it worked fine on vista.

    Sorry. =( xx
