  1. It is a combined effort of experiences and reading.  By being a good listener you can learn from others.  The brain always needs to be challenged and playing games like scrabble is a good way to have fun and learn new words.  Crossword puzzles are good for the brain too.  I am 44 and I am always learning from others no matter what age.  My step daughter is a very intelligent girl studying psychology in college and I learn new things from her.  That was an excellent question and it sounds like you love to read.  If you find a topic in those encyclopedias that you have an interest go to the library and find a book on the subject  or you may find it on google.  Keep reading those encyclopedias!  Best wishes to you

  2. Several scientific studies suggest that you can increase your mental capacity by learning a musical instrument.   It was a topic of discussion on Good Morning America just this week.    The Dr. was saying that the brain can be challenged by learning any kind of musical instrument... but you have to take it seriously..  lessons...  devout practicing.   Also learning a foreign language.

Take up playing something you like the sound of.  Besides,  music is very relaxing.  :))

  3. I think it is a little bit of everything, life experiences, books, solving problems, and genes.

  4. Well, I'm pretty smart, and I got that way by being a voracious reader.

I will read everything--newspapers, books, magazines, even dictionaries.

I learn something from every book I read, too. It helps your vocabulary grow, it assists your spelling skills, it boosts your retention ability, and it is pleasurable. So go grab a book--your brain will thank you!

  5. LEARN!!!!!

  6. Read to gain knowledge.

    Do it to gain experience.

    Observe and ask question.

Most important: continue education and get a good degree.

  7. Your intelligence increases by doing math problems (the harder the better) and by learning bigger words. Thats what Ive been told every time someone tries making me do it. But you also have to want to get smarter... lol.

  8. Learn. If it's by reading, do it. If it's by action, do it. All you have to do is learn.

  9. Exercise your brain. Write and do all tasks with the opposite hand. Block off one eye and read for 15 minutes, do the same with the other. Do things that you are unskilled at doing. Break them down into small parts and practice until each piece is a go. String small beads onto a fine needle. Write backwards. Practice memorizing different words. Learn  a new language, sport or game. Compete with someone at least 1 skill level higher than yours. Sign up for a class that you found difficult in school. Keep physically active. Do something fun. Most of all concentrate on giving back to your community. Do something that you know you will not be rewarded or compensated for. And, resist the urge to tell anyone about it. Your heart will grow exponentially.
