it's a young girl, the rebel, independent kind. I'm not even sure she wants to quit that bad habit but assuming she does how do I persuade her to stop without going against it's will, without trying to force her, or better said without her to realize I'm forcing her, that I'm in control

  1. She seems to enjoy biting her nails. I am a nail biter myself and trust me its not easy to quit. replace this bad habit with a good one. Encourage her to maybe paint her nails when she has the urge to bite them. Get something to distract her from the biting nails. If she's a girly girl then she'll be nto manicures and stuff. Cmpliment her hands and how beautiful they'd look with well groomed painted nails. use your imagination.

  2. there is a special nail polish that is clear and is made for nail biting.

it is really bitter and will stop the biting, in additionl nail biting is a  negative hahabit therefore, you have to replace it with something positive

    IE

painting, or reading something to keep the hand busy.

    good luck

  3. She has to want to stop to stop. If she does want to stop, there are ways. Stopngrow  being the nastiest but effective (a nasty tasting harmless liquid you paint on the nails like nail varnish).

Without her wanting to stop she can continue nail-chewing in privacy/secret or when away from you and thus continue the habit. You can try pursuading her - a week without nail chewing, she gets X. You could try reasoning (without patronising). But if nail chewing was you biggest habit, I wouldn't worry. A lot of adults chew their nails, it's not a big issue.

  4. Um, you can't change someone elses behavior.  If she doesn't want ot quit, you can't make her.  You can tell her you think it's gross and unsanitary and ask why she does it, but don't expect her to just say - You're right. I should quit.

Just asking this question sounds like you want to control her.  The independent rebel in her will only spur her to make it worse to show you that she is in fact the one in charge of her nails.

  5. Well, you can't make someone else quit a bad habit, because it's up to that person to quit the habit. However, if this girl really wants to break the nailbiting habit, she can buy some bitter-tasting substance to paint on her nails, so that she will be discouraged from biting them.

  6. does she wear fingernail polish? that is how i was able to stop! just make sure she always has a fresh coat on her nails!  the taste is somewhat bitter, but it was more of a deterrant because I wanted my nails to be pretty, not nasty!

  7. get a microscope and show her what they really look like...or get pictures on the internet...I quit biting by putting an elastic on my wrist when i went to bite i snapped it...it is suppose to change your brain waves to think before you do if i bite i will get hurt..and a person usually bites nails from stress or anxiety or a nervous habit..its her coping skill
