How do you get someone to sell their house to you?

I moved 4 1/2 years ago. I miss my old house very much and would love to move back. The house isn't for sale. I have heard of people making offers on houses that aren't for sale and people have taken the offer and sold them the house even though it wasn't on the market. How should I approach the people that own the house?

  1. With cash...and lots of it.

  2. Well I wouldn't say that you're th original owner (unless they know you). They might want to jack up the price.

I would just say that you're very interested in buying the house if they're interested in selling & to give you a call w/ either a yes or no if they're willing to sell.

If so, then you can discuss the price and all that. Just make sure to have ALOT of money and to pay top dollar for it.

  3. Ask. But before you do, make sure you know what the value is at this time.

When we purchased our current home, we mailed a letter to every house in the neighborhood we really wanted to live in.  Out of 300 homes, we got 10 calls and 5 were very serious about selling.

  4. You can’t force, but you can ask. You can be so bold as to knock on their door or you can just send them a letter to ask if they’re willing to sell.
