Question:

How do you get soot stains out of carpet?

A couple of weeks ago, I was smoking marijuana (without my parents' knowledge) and I accidentally set fire to a tissue (I'm one of those accident prone people), which appears to have left soot stains in the carpet. I tried to clean it up then (passing off the wet marks as where I spilled something and cleaned it up) but as the carpet has finally dried out, I'm aware the soot marks are still very much there.

I'm stressing a lot. This was the ONLY time I had ever tried drugs, and trust me, I'm not doing it again. Don't you hate karma? Anyway, I would really, really appreciate some help. I'm a model student and daughter, and yeah. I don't want to fail my parents or myself with this.

  1. 1. Vacuum carpet surface using a canister vacuum and hose (do not use an upright type of vacuum with a rotating brush) this only spreads the stain). Using the hose or hose end, gently work from the outer perimeter of the stain towards the center. Effectively reducing the diameter and eliminating the likelihood of spreading the stain. *Never use water to clean toner or soot from carpet because it only spreads and imbeds the stain.

2  Apply Citrus Spotter (Grease, Tar, Adhesive Remover) sparingly to the center of the affected area. Allow 5 - 10 minutes dwell time.  PRECAUTION: Pre-test in an inconspicuous area.

3  Blot - Thoroughly using a clean white terry cloth towel or absorbent blotting material. Continue shifting to clean dry areas of towel applying downward pressure.

4  Rinse with COLD water to neutralize.

5  Blot - Thoroughly using a clean white terry cloth towel or absorbent blotting material. Continue shifting to clean dry areas of towel applying downward pressure.

6  Get The Spot Dry - Dry the area immediately using a circular fan or hair dryer (no heat)  to prevent wicking. Repeat steps if necessary.

  2. Sodium Salts and warm soapy water.

  3. bad idea.  try this to remove the soot.  This is a good idea:

  4. Thanks for the open confession!

Now get on your knees and start scrubbing, you need a pail with some water, a scrub brush, white vinegar and start scrubbing the spot then spray some carpet shampoo on the spot and repeat the scrubbing and repeat after each scrub, I will never do this again!
