  1. what you want to do is solve for r. to do this you want to isolate the variable (r). so to start you want to move the 4 to the right side by multiplying it by 14. (remember you always want to do the opposite operation than what is in the original equation). so your equation would look like: (r-3)=56. now to finally isolate r you want to add 3 to both sides (since it's being subtracted in the equation) to get: r=59. your final answer is r=59. i hope i was of some help and didn't confuse you too much! it's an easy concept once you get the hang of it. good luck with future math problems!
