ive got a new hunting area with a nice tree stand overlooking a nice lightly forest area, their are large fields arround the forest with water sources near by, I am new to hunting and gaining a lot of knowledge from my neighbours, friends and you guys. What i am wondering is what can i put in the area that will make the bucks come? I am thinking of making a food plot but what plants or foods do deers go crazy for? and what are some all around products that bring the bucks in no problem?

  1. JMO but food plots are baiting but legal. You didnt say what State You are in so I can give You a few universal things to grow. Winter Wheat, Turnip Greens, Rye Grass, Kayle, Winter Peas(grow late summer but frost kills). The trick to killing "Big Bucks" on food plots is dont kill anything else over the food plot. Let does and fawns feed un-interrupted regardless of temptation if Bucks are what You really want to kill. Just a word of advice; No matter how long You(anyone) boils the antlers they stay hard and the broth tastes bad. lol

BTW; "Danell" Boone was Daniel Boone. lol

  2. 4 - play...lol that's funny rite there I don't care who u are,,,,...

  3. I have had excellent luck with grunt calls and rattling during the rut.  I have hunted over food plots, mostly clover, but to be honest, I have not had much luck with trophy deer and food plots.  Does and small bucks, yes, but where I find big bucks is patterning them.  I look for tracks on a trail that has scrapes and rubs.  If I have the opportunity, I mount a trail camera at the most likely place(s) the buck might travel.  I try to figure out where the buck's bedding area is and where his food/water sources are and try to set up in between.

Deer are lazy. You can't make them come to you unless you are making life easier for them by doing so.  If you plant a food plot that is not convenient for them to travel to, they will not come.  They are not going to pass a fat mast crop like acorns to get to a piddly little clover plot.  Study the habits of the deer in the area you are hunting and set up your stand to take advantage of the habits.  That's how successful hunters do it.

  4. Find you a good game trail intersection and put out a JUG of Comere Deer

  5. Skip the gardening and go for "Apple Scent". All deer love apples.  Pour a few drops of Apple Scent on a piece of cloth, "Tie the cloth in a location so the buck can't see you. Nailed to the other side of a stump is ideal. The buck puts his head down behind the stump to smell the Apple Scent. He won't see your movement when you bring the rifle up and aim.

  6. for many years i have tried everything from carrots to scents with no real results on getting that dream buck all hunters want!so one season i went back to the old school of hunting my father and grandfather and so on.get out in the woods weeks or months before season and looking for rubs and scrapes, runways, bedding and feeding areas getting down in the swamps and working hard to find that buck.it took some time to get good at it and you need to do your home work.hunt in the rain, snow and when everyone else thinks it time for lunch or to cold or the weather is bad.my familys game room is filled with big 8 pointer 10 pointer bear ect. all shot on state land no bait pile scents or any moderen day waste of money hunting stuff!now my game room is filling up with the same memories as my fathers is.just work hard at it the wife will only be mad for awhile because your on with mother nature but the smile she sees the day you bring home that big buck she will understand and you will feel better also.then take your wife and teach her or your kids.keep hunting and learning dont waste your money on useless stuff save that money for something your loved one wants.

  7. Dont make a food plot or anything.

Just get some ESTRUS scents, and some rattlin' antlers. That should be a good way, if not the most original way.

Also, did you scout the area?? You should always scout the area, look for rubs, tracks, etc. Before putting up the stand.

That guys apple trick  might work too....

    0.o

    have fun hunting!

  8. DOES.

Does DEFINATELY make the Bucks Come.

A Ron Jeremey p***s Enlarger might work too if you can catch the Bucks and apply it.

The Does in my life I am still working on and can't really provide much advice. :)

  9. There is one sure way, just check out the game laws in your state-if legal, put out some corn-get a 40 or 50 lb sack and scatter it on the ground close to the thickets that deer like to travel in, even though they may come through and feed in the morning, the best time is usually about 20 minutes before dark, until it gets dark. It may take them about a week to find it, but once they find it, they will return every night to feed on it.Make certain your stand is located downwind of the corn, so the deer can't smell you. The corn will pull in deer better then any food plot will do- The food plots are most effective when all other food sources have dried up, but they are good to have on your property to keep the deer from leaving your area in search of food. Good luck and good hunting.

  10. Before you do anything, you need to thoroughly review the game laws for your state to be sure that you don't violate any anti-baiting laws.  Some states let you put out bait for deer and some don't.    If the law allows, you can put out deer feeders, salt blocks or feed plots.  You can also try some of the attractant scents if you want.  I think they are a waste of good money but there are some folks who would disagree with me.  One of my favorite scents is a masking scent that mimics the scent of a skunk.  it is pretty powerful so you only want to use a tiny bit to cover your scent.  If you make it too strong, not only will you suffer from the stench but the deer will assume that whatever danger caused the skunk to spray may still be in the area.  What you want to mimic is an old spray scent that has faded away and only a tiny bit is left.  Skunk scent is pretty common everywhere so it is pretty safe.  If you were to use fox scent in an area where there are no foxes, the deer will be wary of a strange smell.  "Be sure you are right and then go ahead." as Davy Crockett said.
