You need a lot more than the first expansion to be able to marry someone, but I'll start with the house upgrade.

1.  First, buy at least one item a day from Karen's Supermarket for 10 days straight.  Days the market doesn't open at all (IE Tuesday's and Festival days) don't count.  This unlocks the shopping channel.

2.  Watch the shopping channel every day until it offers the table.  Purchase the table and wait for it to be delivered.

3.  After the table has been delivered the Woodcutter will allow you to upgrade your house.

Marriage requirements:

1.  The big bed.  This is purchased from the sprite channel after your second house upgrade has been completed.

2.  The blue feather.  Which you can buy from Karen when a girl hits the orange heart level.

3.  You must rescue at least 60 harvest sprites.

4.  The girl requires 60,000+ affection points (ie a red heart.)

5.  You must see all 4 of the girl's heart events.
