How do you get the other Mario kart wii characters?

Question

I beat the game! But I still don't have baby Luigi, Birdo, dry bowser, toadette, the lady with the star that dances over head.(I don't know the name.) And then there's that weirdo monkey dude that i have no idea who he is. But I beat the game!!! I haven't even got to the boss!! Why not? I got gold medal on all! Maybe not 60 points but I still got gold! What do i do?

do the time trials. beat the current records for time trial on the courses, and you will unlock i think Baby luigi, birdo, toadette, and funky kong ( monkey guy). i think it goes like

Beat 4 Time Trial Records - Baby Luigi

beat 8 - funky kong

oh and for toadette and birdo i think you need to play 16 time trials for one, then 32 for the other

to get the on ones like baby peach/luigi and characters like that you have to get a gold star rank on every cource in every cc and to unlock the others you have to go on time trial mode and beat them 5 seconds faster than them and you will unlock funky kong and others. and to get the women with the star over her head (rosalina)you need mario galaxy save data.

There are still ranks and time trials left.

On the grand prix selection screen, you can see at the down-right corner your highest rank that you achieved in the cup.

If you want all the characters, you need to get at least a 1 star rank on each and every cup on 50cc, 100cc, 150cc and mirror mode.

There are furthermore some other characters you can unlock in time trial. Nintendo has added their own ghost times to all 32 tracks. If you beat their ghost times by 4-7 seconds (depending on the track) then you will unlock an "expert staff ghost", which is a new ghost time, just much faster. You need to unlock these "expert staff ghost" times for all tracks if you want all the characters.
