  1. try buing a ph kit or a shock kit  they have a decent one at wal mart


  2. Acid takes PH down, Soda Ash takes PH up.

    Both are available from your local pool supply store.

  3. The absolute best way to raise your pH is through aeration. Any kind of bubbles you can make in your pool (waterfalls, fountains, air compressor with hose, shop vac in reverse) will lower the pH. The bubbles being released from the pool are carbon dioxide. As the carbon dioxide level in the pool is lowered the pH will rise. This is very helpful for getting your TA level inline. If you add soda ash to the pool it will raise your pH but also your TA. For example- 1 pound of soda ash in 10000 gallons will raise the pH by .35 but it will also raise the TA by 11.
