How do you get the quickest 0-60 time in a car with an automatic gearbox?

Do you just put the pedal to the metal and keep it there and let the gearbox do it's thing, or do you ease off the throttle slightly just before the gearchange so that the upshift happens a bit sooner and then floor it again?

(I'm using a medium-sized, medium-weight petrol car with a medium-sized engine as an example.)

  1. put a shift kit in the tranny, it will change gears faster.

  2. Stand on it.  Don't worry about throttle reduction for gear changes.  I don't recommend making it a habit. The harder you drive, the more often things break.
