  1. When you see that the center of the flowers have visible seeds you can try a seed every now and then until you feel they taste right to you. They come out of the center pretty easy. I had a few and just pulled them out. You can toast them in the oven or whatever you like.

  2. Sunflower seeds ripen on the flower and are usually left there to dry. If birds are harvesting your seeds, wrap cheese-cloth around each flower until the seeds are dried. The seeds may also be shaken off the flower when mature, then dried in the sun for several days, or in a food dehydrator at 100 degrees F. Then dry, seeds can be roasted in a shallow pan at 300 degrees F for 10-15 minutes. YUMMY have fun.

  3. Sunflowers die and leave a large head reap the seeds from that, you will see it!

  4. Once the flower head has visible seeds (look closely) in the center, you can cut the flower heads off and bring them indoors. Break the flower in half and you will see the seeds which you can remove and eat right from the flower or set them out to dry for later consumption.

If you do not want to eat the seeds raw, you can place them in the oven on a cookie sheet. Set the oven to a warm setting (low) for about an hour – shut the oven off and leave the seeds in there until the oven cools. Enjoy.

They can be stored in an airtight jar in the cupboard or refrigerator.
