How do you get the video from an old video cassette onto a computer?

I have so many great old footage and i was just wondering if you even can get it off the cassette and convert it to a computer?

Best Buy has a VHS to DVD converter box that will do that. About $200 or so. But your CD drive must be DVD compatible to read it. But if you have loads of old VHS tapes, it'd be a good way to get them converted before they go stale.
