I have a Maytag Neptune FRONT LOAD WASHING MACHINE. I need to put it into long-term storage. Is there a way to get the water out of the machine so that it's not just sitting inside the machine for a year?

  1. Firstly you need to remove all water from the inlet pipe(s) do this by turning off the water valve(s) to the machine and then put the machine onto a 60' wash cycle for a couple of seconds to empty any remaining water in the inlet pipes into the tub. Switch machine off and then select the spin cycle, before switching the machine on, un hook the waste pipe and hook it on a bowl as low down and close as possible to floor. Switch on the machine and let it run until no more water comes from the waste pipe.

The reason why you need to get the hose as low as possible is that there is always water left in the sump of the machine that the pump will not remove but if you place the hose lower than the sump it will naturally flow out. Sometimes this is easier to do if you can put the washer on a step (outside?) and hold the hose below.

  2. In case you've never noticed, washing machines, like dish washers, drain from a higher point than the water level. if the drain is too low the water will just drain out. Lower the hose to floor level and drain it into a low tub or out the door. You can put it on a drain cycle for a moment then to get the last of it.

  3. Plug it in, if you can, set cycle to spin and this should drain all remaining water in the machine.  Be sure your drain tube is placed where the water coming out does not ruin anything, preferably down the drain.
