I found my christenin dress from 18 yrs ago. it was put away nicely in a keepsake bag but developed a yellow tint color i guess from being old. What is a good way to get it out?

  1. Give it a gentle washing to remove any dust or dirt.  Then hang it outside in the sunshine.  Might take a day or two or even three of good bright sunshine but it will work.  And doesn't damage the cloth like bleach does!

Then when it's nice and white again, get acid free tissue paper to wrap it in before you put it away again.

  2. I had a 24 year old baby dress I was saving

I sent it to two different cleaners and they could not get the old yellowing out of the lace,

I made a solution of 1/2 cup oxiclean powder and a gallon of warm water and soaked the dress over night

That worked!! It even got the colors brighter looking like new again

  3. you can take it to a business that preserves wedding dresses.  you can find them listed in the local phone book.  it is a little pricey i here, but they can return it to is natural state or close to it and preserve it for you.

  4. The Powder kind of Arm and Hammer Baking Soda Washing Powders is best for any type of whitening needed.

  5. Oxiclean is the easy answer.  Soak it in 1/2 c. oxiclean and water overnight.  That should do it..If not, do it one more time.  It will not weaken the fibers of the dress.  People that deal in old linens, handkerchiefs, laces have used this for years.  We originally used sodium perborate but oxiclean is similar.

  6. have it dry cleaned
