  1. Can't one go by boat...or Alert inland? My father works on cargo ships that go to Nunavut.

  2. The best way is by air as the roads are few and far between.  There are daily scheduled flights into Alert.

  3. plane, helicopter

  4. On a very small plane

  5. Alert is a military installation on the northern tip of Ellesmere Island.  The only practical way in or out is via military transport plane.  (Ministry of Environment used to have a weather station there as well, but I'm not sure whether it's still active).

  6. The only way in is by plane, there is a harbour that boats could drop anchor in BUT unless Al Gore gets on with global warming it is full of pack ice most of the summer season.

The largest planes are C130 Hercules aircraft but the runway is long enough to handle a gravel kitted B737.

If one was determined to go overland to alert it would be possible but it would be a long trip.
