no, seriously, where are you?  i'd use trails and such as much as you can, but it is legal to walk on the shoulder of most secondary roads if there is no path or sidewalk available.

From where I live...that is one very long walk ( considering it's about 5 hours by plane ).  Better wear some very comfortable shoes...

No reason to walk to Malibu, especially since PCH is a major highway and not advisable to walk along on some portions. Just take a MTA bus #534 which provides service to Malibu from Santa Monica and the West LA transit center. From either of these locations you can connect to/from other parts of southern California. The fare is only $1.25 and the line runs frequently. Good Luck!

Strongly not recommended no matter where you come from. PCH is a 50 mph highway and very dangerous to pedestrian traffic. Most of the beach (sand) is private property. I would not even recommend bicycling or motorcycling. Just a very tough road. Malibu Canyon (45-50 mph) is too narrow in too many places for pedestrians. Best to bum a ride or drive yourself.
