How do you get to Monroe, NY by bus/train from NYC?

You can take a bus from the 42nd Street Port Authority Bus Terminal.  Short Line bus has runs from Port Authority to Monroe I believe.

The closest you can get to Monroe by train would be Harriman, which is about 3 miles from Monroe.  That would entail taking the PATH train to Hoboken, and getting on an NJ Transit/Metro North train going from Hoboken to Port Jervis (which stops at Harriman).  From there, you'll have to hail a cab.
