Question:

How do you get your address recognised when moving into a new build house?

Situation: you purchase a brand new house, on a brand new estate which has only just had a postcode allocated to it. Normally it can take up to a year to get the address to be recognised on most large company databases, but is there anything that can be done to help quicken this process?

Obtaining goods via courier is a nightmare, banks won't be able to find your details, you can't get credit at the address as it doesn't exist - the list is endless. Also re-directing post as the Royal Mail doesn't even recognise it!

Is there anything that can be done to help move this allong?

Only sensible answers please.

Many thanks!

  1. I heard about a problem someone had a few years ago which was similar to yours. I think they mentioned that they had to go the post office to register it as inhabited. Even though the post office had the post code on their system it wasn't activated, this happens once people move in and someone registers it. May be wrong but worth a try phoning the post office for advise.

  2. there are normally teething problems with new sites and site numbers but once the postal code has been allocated you should not be having any probs with your post.  if you still are you need to contact the post office as the difficulty could be there if the records have not been  updated.   hope this helps

  3. If a postcode is allocated then Royal Mail will be aware of it.

Contact any banks and businesses and explain the situation to them.

  4. Join the club.

These people on their data bases havent got a clue.

If your address is not on the data base, then sorry you must be lying to me.

The thing is ,they buy in the information. They need to get off their lazy a...s and keep up with progress.

Took me 2 years before they would accept my address. Idiots.
