I have all the qualifications to teach swimming lessons, but I want to know what you have to do in order to teach lessons at your pool. I hear you need to get your pool certified or something? but I don't know who to contact, or what I really need to do. So, please help me out with any of the above information, it would be a big help. if it makes any difference I live in Canada. Thanks.

  1. Check with the city clerk office in your hometown. That way you could find out how much insurance you need and if your plan is even legal.

  2. A little advice:  talk to your insurance person to get a 'rider' on your homeowner's insurance to allow for liability protections while using your home pool for instruction.  This is a critical step for your own financial protection.

In the US, or at least here in Southern California, there are a couple of Private Groups that certify home pools for private swimming instruction.  The most prominent of these is the YMCA.  If you meet their standards they will list you as a provider and you benefit from being in their data-base and potentially getting referred.  The American Red Cross also offers an 'Official Provider' agreement;  I do not know if the Canadian Red Cross does the same.

Good luck to you.  I believe that teaching children to swim safely is essential...you are providing an important public service and contributing to saving lives.
