I always go to sleep at least sometime after 11. I am now going into middle school and I need to wake up at 6. I used to listen to music to make me go to sleep. But then I would wake up with headaches[I would listen to rock and pop]. How do you get yourself to sleep? I also need answers soon. I start school in 2 days. HELP!

  1. You'll need to get your body used to going to sleep sooner. Make sure to start relaxing it a bit earlier so you won't feel the need to continue being on the go. Sometimes a soothing cup of hot tea and a relaxing book help.

    Good luck!

  2. A definite routine that you follow everyday will help,

Do the same things every night i.e read/ listen to soothing music for an hour/ half an hour before a set bedtime to help you wind down.

You could also keep a note pad and pencil by the side of your bed so you can jot down any thoughts/worries/ideas down so they aren't cluttering up your brain so you can't sleep.

Then keep doing this and after a while your body will settle down into a rhythm and know it's time to sleep.

Try taking a bath before bed time.

Or even lying in bed and thinking about a peaceful place where you can relax and be happy i.e a forest, a peaceful meadow, ect. what ever works for you and can get you calm and relaxed and in a restful state of mind.

    Remember :

Try not to watch TV or play computer games about an hour before you go to sleep, as this will keep your brain active and prevent it from shutting down to go to sleep.

Try to keep things calm and quiet before bed time, this will keep you relaxed and mellow and ready to rest.

Do not have any fizzy drinks or sugary snacks before bed time, these will just keep your body on a sugar high and keep it awake.

    Hope i helped! Happy snoozing!

  3. Please don't think this is being smart or flippant because it's not. I once asked a colleague about this and the answer was a good one.

"Don't take the problems of the day to bed with you, and the probable cause is that your mind is occupied by worrying about the reason you're not sleeping."

Background noise is a definite no-no. Even if it's soft, soothing music, it will prevent you from drifting from the light sleep stage into the complete sleep because you are subconsciously listening to the music and so, there is a distraction. I sleep well on big aircraft because, even though there is the engine noise, I feel relaxed, and doze off. However, when I wake up, after about an hour I'm tired again because the sleep wasn't complete.

Forget about the day. It's over and a new one will start; you can't change what has happened. Stop the music and think of something pleasant.
