  1. Being a jock myself, bute well Iv'e taken it,a horse well just put it in they feed.Just mix it up.I just drunk it with coffee.

Felt good all day.,By the way there were no SWABS,back then..Rode a few winners..

  2. Stab it in the "Bermuda Triangle" - this is intramuscularly in the neck - when looking at the horse's profile - in the middle of the neck.  But if you have to ask on yahoo answers... perhaps you should crush up some pills and make a paste...

  3. I have never encountered shots of bute but I know they exist in an intravenous form (inject into the vein). You will typically see bute in paste form or in pill form. Paste is given the same as wormer and pills are usually ground in feed.

If you are looking for a pain medication that isn't an anti-inflammatory go with Banamine - it can be injected into the vein or into the muscle.

  4. injectable bute can only be given in the vein please don't give it in the muscle the best case scenario when you give bute in the muscle will be a nasty abcess at the spot you give  worst case is death(they'll fall right off the needle as I have seen this happen) so if you are not a vet and since you are asking this question we'll assume you're not give oral bute either paste, pill, or powder bute which is very handy and comes flavored. all so keep in mind bute is very hard on your horses stomach no matter how its given.

  5. Bute is usually given interveneously when it is injected. Most of the time, when I have to give bute, I use either a paste or tablets that have been crushed and mixed with something like applesauce or molasses ( bute is extremely bitter tasting, and most horses I know won't eat it willingly unless it is disguised in some way) and squirt it into the horse's mouth with an oral syringe. Banamine is a better drug for shots- it can be used either IM or IV, and it is a VERY effective anti- inflammatory ( it is NOT an NSAID, however) and is useful for controlling pain and bringing down fever if a horse has the flu or a cold. Banamine's main use, though, is for colic cases. That is what it was originally developed for. I have used Banamine on horses who were colicky, and it does help them. I hope this clears up some of the confusion about these 2 drugs.

  6. if you mean a pill of bute, i crush it up and mix it with apple sauce, suck it into a syringe and give it the the horse like a paste dewormer.
