How do you give thanks to a truly great father on Father's Day?

My father is truly the greatest. He has been there for me through all my trials and tribulations. He was the principal at the school I attended and was a father to many others as well because of that. In fact, he was a father to their fathers as well. When he retired, he started working for the community. From the Masakhane project to recent community projects I don't even know about. He was and still is a father to the community. He fought for what was right when everything was wrong in South Africa. And when everything seemed right with South Africa, he stood up and fought for things he knew weren't. He cares for family, both his and my mom's as if they were his own sisters and brothers. When my grandma died (my mom's mom), he was given the flower to put on the grave as SON, when he was just a son-in-law. There were 12 other blood siblings that didn't get that special privilege. How do you thank someone like that on Father's Day?

  1. When I lost my father 3 years ago - I then - realised just what a big gap he filled in my life, by reading your question your father obviously fills a HUGE gap and you admire him tremendously...

The thing I realised - I NEVER did enough was show him and tell him what a great dad he was - and how I respected him not only as my father but as a MAN...

If I had the chance I would write him a letter explaining how much of an influence he had on my life and put it in a nice frame - so that he could hang it in his office, bar or bedroom and brag (rightfully so) about how his son admires him -

Good luck with ideas I am sure you will make him feel special

Me - I am going to have an ice cold Amstel with him in my thoughts - h**l he enjoyed his Amstels....

  2. You're truly blessed! I'm sure you don't need to be told how to show your gratitude to him, just show it!

Joppie: I'm not sure Porgie's dad is gonna appreciate "sweat''!

  3. I am happy for you ! Well I don't have a clue but I would have loved to be in your situation since I grew up without a dad ! Since I am the proud father of twin daughters today I can ask myself '' what would make me happy ? '' ......And it would be as simple as to hear the 4 words ''I love you dad ! ''

  4. You are so fortunate  - i lost my dad 9 years ago, so just show him you  appreciate and love him every day and follow his lead    -   add welcome back Joppie

  5. Put your arms around him and tell him how much you love him and ask him to spend the day with just the two of you doing what he wants to do.  Spending time with you will probably be what he wants too.  It sounds like you have a great relationship.

  6. Sweat and short:

    I love you dad

No money can ever beat that

  7. Wow! How fortunate you are. God Bless him! I think he will absolutely love a long heartfelt tribute DVD recorded by each member of your family telling him about the moments in their lives that he has been a source of strength and inspiration. Wordly goods won't impress him as much as this would. You can tell him that I respect him and don't even know him.

  8. You should try to put his life story in book form, even if it is just read in your family. It sounds like he is a great man. My dad passed away when I was relatively young, before I could appreciate him, but I still remember the fishing trips, camping trips and making and flying of kites with him. A pity I could never discuss his lifestory with him. Happy fathersday to all you fathers out there.
