  1. Go on-line and check out the US government site on adoption. It gives different info for each country.  Many countries will not allow kids to be adopted by Americans because the US has not ratified the Hague Convention (after 8 long years).  Good health is usually a criteria for foreign adoption. Well-off is a relative term. Each country has its minimum financial standard.


  2. It has become very hard to adopt in Ireland as less children are being offered for adoption, so you could be waiting many years. The first step is to contact a registered adoption society or your nearest Health Service Executive (HSE) Local Health Office. They carry out a detailed assessment of your suitability and motives for adopting.  It wouldn't be a requirement to be well off, so long as you can afford to look after the needs of a child.  All applicants are required to undergo a medical examination.  You can find out more about it at the Citizens Information site below.
