I seriously need to file a complaint about both my registration department and my school's bookstore manager. Typically, who would I go to, to file this complaint?

  1. You schedule an appointment with each of their managers.  You do it in person.  Find an organizational chart and find out who they report to.  Your bookstore's manager may be in independent contract company...many are.  In neither case are they "faculty members" they are college staff members.  (college professor)

  2. you need to write a letter to the head of each place (find out who owns the store), expressing what it is you disagree with. make sure you cc the school president on the registrar. keep records. then wait for their response. there is a grievance committee at most universities. if you are a member of an education organization like the AFT, be sure they are kept informed. you might want to ask them first. if the response is unsatisfactory, go to the school president (in writing), and ask him/her to address the situation. be sure to remain objective in any written or verbal communication. stick to the facts and what the resulting problem is and how it affects the university negatively. good luck. remember, you are fighting a large government organization. it will take time and depending on the situation, you could face repercussions.

  3. There is really no such thing as "filing" a complaint but you can go and talk to your schools Dean of Student Services.  Be friendly, be constructive, and make suggestions on how the problem could have been remedied.
