Who do you contact or how do you go about trying to get a law changed or amended? It is a federal law and I would like to bring up the ambiguity and broadness of this law. I just don't know who to take this to. I would appreciate any help. Thanks so much....

  1. Short version: A federal law starts as a bill introduced into either house of Congress by a member.  It will be assigned to a committee.  if voted out of there, it will go to the floor of whatever house it is in for a vote.  If passed, it goes to the other house.  If passed there, it goes to the President for singature.  Then it's a law.  The best way a citizen can make this happen is to get other citizens (also known as voters) behind the idea as well.  A Congressman or Senator who wants to get re-elected (and who doesn't?) will listen to a large enough block of voters.

  2. Own a multi-national corporation, have a bunch of lobbyists and pay (sorry donate to) a congressman or dozen.

  3. Call your federal representatives, or violate the law, then take it to court and say it is unconstitutional because it is over-broad or too vague.

  4. Call your member of Congress, and both of your Senators. Make sure that you outline what you want to say before you call.  This will help you in your presentation.

Write a letter to the editor.  talk about the issue. and share what happened with your contact with the elected officials.  Remember, this is an election year...
