My full name is Katherine, but for most of my life i've gone by Katie. The only people that call me Katherine are my parents sometimes, my teachers and guidance counselors, and my doctor.

I don't really like Katie. I feel like i'm getting too old for it. Too many people go by it...Because of this my step-mom never calls me it. She actually calls me Kathy (lol...)

On sweatshirts and sports stuff, I usually just have KT or Kat.

very few people call me Kate

Which name would you choose, and how to I "transition"?

  1. Start putting "Kate" on sports things and stuff. Just tell people you'd like to go by "Kate". If some don't catch on, just let the others that do spread it.

  2. I think the full name of Katherine sounds very grown up, mature, and elegant. It's a really lovely name and I wouldn't shorten it. But that's just me.

  3. I like Kat it sounds s**y! haha! j/k :) just dont care about the names I was called many nicknames. OMG! I hated them sometimes lol (Jimmy Neutron, Peanut, Mr.Peanut,Big head, etc.) I was called that for the past like 5 years soon people wont even say anything trust me it stuck for about 5 years now im like a old vet at my school, and all I hear is my full name Matthew...haha! try it :)

    Have a good day :)

  4. I totally agree about the name Katie, it is a little 'young.'

I like the name Kate and it would be easier for people to call you that because it sounds the same as Katie, you just chop the 'ie' out. THe way to transition is when someone says Katie, just politely say, 'Oh, would you mind calling me Kate from now on?' If they ask why, tell them the truth [Unless their name is Katie lol] You might have to remind them a few times, but whatever name you pick should stick as long as people actually think about what their going to say.

  5. i like kay...

  6. I've always liked Kat as a nickname for Katherine but it might be hard to suddenly be like "Oh hey, my name isn't Katie anymore"

  7. i like kat or kate, more kat.

  8. Kathy sounds nice and so does kate.

  9. I have three names i go by. My name is scotland but i was always called scotty until i was 16 and decided i hate the name scotty so as i made new friends i introduced myself as scotland. Now all my friends call my scotland and my family still calls me scotty, and my coworkers call me scot cause scotland can be a mouthful sometime. good luck with getting people to change what they call you. it usually doesnt work too well. my parents wont call me scotland even though they named me that. i dont get it.

  10. i'd go wit kathy or kate

and tell them to call u wat u want and if they don't ignore them adn tell them you didn't hear them did they call u ____

lol thats wat i would do

  11. Well you dont have to shorten up your name i got my nickname because i was a huge baby then people switch up that name. I have over 100 nicknames

  12. well whatever you choose, the transition is simple.  when ppl call you by the older names just say "actually, i prefer _______ now.  thanks"  usually they'll be like "oh ok cool"  not a biggie.
