I want to go to the beach, not to swim, not to tan, but to fish.

I want to go fishing at the beach, but how do I do it? What do I need? I've gone fishing at a lake but I imagine fishing at the beach to be different.

  1. from the cliffs near the beach??

  2. I go surf fishing all the time. Go to a fishing store (Or store that sells fishing stuff) and ask them to help you gather fishing supllies for the beach then when you get to the beach you can dig up sand crabs to use as bait

  3. Incoming tide is the best time because some of the creatures that burrow in the sand under the surf have to move to higher ground as the water leval rises and some of the smaller fish cruise near the surf line looking to feed on those creatures...and occasionally the bigger fish cruise by on the lookout for the smaller fish.

The outgoing tide can be good as well but the water tends to be murkier when the tide is going out as opposed to going in.

The best place to fish on the beach will generally be near some structure, like some submerged rocks, or where the tidal currents form "holes" in the sand.  You can check out the area at low tide to get an idead of where the best places to fish during the incoming tide will be.

The best kind of baits or lures to use will depend on the local area and what kind of species you want to catch most.  The best way to find out the locality-specific knowledge would be to go to the beach and talk to the people fishing there.

  4. Use a deep-fishing pole..cast from the shore, as far as you can.....using natural bait ....FUN!!

  5. Being from GA I'm a lake fisher(wo)man.. I caught he!! trying to fish in the ocean.. We stood on the shore and cast out, my husband (who's from FL and loves ocean fishing) caught a bonnet head shark, I caught a blow fish...

Most people like to wade out waist deep, but I wouldn't advise it, the sharks are active especially at night. I was told the best thing to fish with are live shrimp. I too have found it better to ocean fish from a boat, but with me even then I caught a trout, out of season...

Oh, also make sure you use the right test line, and weight, I'd hate for you to catch a whopper and the line breaks before you can get it to shore.. and make sure you check the tides. It's fun, and I hope you have better luck than I did..

  6. It depends on the beach, and what you want to catch.

The most important things are a good long rod to reach out far, and a reel with lots of line. Some good rod holders help, but are not necessary.  Depending on what you want to catch you can use anything from shrimp and squid cut up on a size 6 hook for sea trout and mangrove snapper, to a huge Mack, on a 8/0-11/0 hook and stainless leader for shark.

Always fish responsibly and not around swimmers, surfers, and that sort of stuff.

If you dig in the sand right after the waves go out you can get these little creatures called sand fleas, very good for some of the wonderful eating and fun to catch fish.

Heavy weights that are the right shape and size helps to keep the bait in place, pyramid works wonderfully. Look for structure where fish sit, holes in the outgoing current that they will hold waiting for tasty treats to go floating by, and place yours there.

    Good luck and tight lines

  7. First of all check the local regulations were you plan to do the "beach"(called surf casting) fishing.

Then you can either buy a  spinning or casting rod of the proper size for whatever fish you are after, or you can even buy or make a handline to use for catching such fish as flounders.  Anyway have fun!!

  8. your best bet is to ask the locals (a bait shop, others fishing nearby, etc.) they've probably already figured it out!

  9. Surf fishing is fun.

What you need:  a rod and reel, a wading belt.  a stringer or do-net to put the fish you catch in--I prefer a do-net--not as inviting to sharks, a floating bait bucket if using bait OR artificial bait, and a landing net.

Attach your do-net, landing net, and bait bucket to your wading belt.  You'll also need a pair of needle nose pliars to help remove hooks from the fish you catch.  As you walk out you will be able to tell where the sand bars are because the water will get deeper (the guts) as you walk out then get shallow again (sand bars).  Walk out as far as you are comfortable--for me about bellybutton deep on the far edge of a sand bar and cast out into the deeper water (the gut).  I use artificials--there's not so much stuff to carry.  I use topwater baits early in the morning.  It seems the best fishing in the surf in the summertime is 5:30-8am.  Have fun and Good luck!!

  10. normal fishing just sit down on the rocks bobs ya uncle

  11. First find out the regulations for whatever beach you are planning to fish. Most populated beaches have certain times or areas designated for fishing (to keep swimmers, surfers, and fishermen separate). You will want to get some heavy pyramid sinkers to hold to the bottom. Also you will want a longer pole to help you cast farther. Squid, minnows, shrimp, pieces of crab, and clams all work well. You probably will not catch the same size fish as offshore but it is still a great experience. Bring a cooler with some drinks and enjoy.

  12. the first thing you do is watch the movie "a river runs through it."  since you are so set on fishing at the beach, it may upset you that they are fishing in a river....try to get past that.  once you are properly motivated and focused, get one of everything from the fishing store so you are prepared for anything.  you dont need to get a fishing licence because youre need to fish is of the primal sorts and understood by the local authority.  head to the nearest home depot.  youll need to hire many migrant workers to help you move all of your supplies to your fishing spot on the beach.  once you find a good spot on a jetty or a dock you may fish.

  13. its soooo much fun! please look at the source! there is all kinds of info!!!!
