I just moved to downtown Minneapolis and I am looking for a waitressing job.

My current and past job experience has been all about customer service and I have no waitressing experience.

What I the best way to get started.

*Do I have to start at the bottom and make my way to the top for the experience? If so, do i tell the manager i probably will not be there for long?

*What are some tips on obtaining the job

Being successful in it

*Also what are some simple tips to being a great waitress.

Thank you :)

  2. Get a hostess position first.  Then once you've been there for a little while, let your boss know you're interested in waitressing and see if he will let you train with someone for a night to see how you do.

  3. start at the bottom?? id say waitress is right down there.almost anyone can be a waitress. just be friendly and quick. and no matter what you are there to please your customers. if they growl offer them a free piece of pie. thats what i  used to do. people love to get something for nothing, so it usually shuts them up. i waited tables for 5 years and loved it. the nicer you are the more tips you will get.working in the right spot can earn you alot of money(if they are busy).

  4. I never had any waitresses experience and got a job as one, and basically learned what to do right away. You don't really "make your way to the top" as a waitress. You can just be one right away. And because you have customer service experience, that's great, because you're dealing with customers and that's the main thing.

Always be friendly. ALWAYS. You're going to get some rude people complaining that their food took too long, or it wasn't right, or whatever. Just be very nice, and do whatever to make them happy.

I didn't find that everybody was extremely rude, there are A LOT of nice people. But every once in a while you'll get a table that you just don't want to wait on, but because it's your job you'll have to. So just suck it up and be as nice as you can. :) (even if you really don't want to...fake it).

I found that always helped me get through it. And the tips are great. :)

  5. Just go tel them you have experience.

  6. Ok well i have 2 friends that im goign to tell you about. One of my friends got hired at a resturant and started as a hostess there. Then as time went by, a waitress position became available and she told her boss that she was interested and he gave it to her. Sometimes you have to start at a hostess position first. But my other friend was hired as a waitress immediately at a new resturant and picked it up very quickly. So it just depends on what resturant your going to be appying for.
