How do you go from miles per gallon to gallons per hour?

  1. if you go sixty miles per hour and your car gets 20 miles per gallon then gallons per hour =60mph/20mpg

    or 3 gallons per hour


  2. You need to know the mpg number for your given speed.  If you get 25 mpg and you drive 75 mph, you're using 3 gallons per hour.  If you drive 50 mph, you're using 2 gallons per hour.  But a car that gets 25 mpg at 50 won't get 25 mpg at 75, it'd be closer to 20.

    Basically, it's mph/mpg.  50 mph/20 mpg means you're using 2.5 gallons per hour.  70 mph/17 mpg gives 4.1 gallons/hour...
